Spoiled Brats by Simon Rich

  • This collection of short stories is a humorous and pointed look at modern culture, specifically focusing on Millennials.
  • The stories are often told from an unusual point of view (e.g. the class hamster that is never fed by irresponsible students).
  • This is a quick and fun short read.

You Can't Spell America Without Me by Alec Baldwin & Kurt Andersen

  • I highly recommend the audiobook that has 3 narrators.  Alec Baldwin starts out.  Then Kurt Andersen takes over.  Lastly, a professional narrator finishes the bulk of the book.
  • This is a fun read for someone who doesn't take politics too seriously.
  • This as written as a personal diary during the early days of the Trump presidency.

Becoming Hitler by Thomas Weber

  • This book tells the story of how Hitler became the Nazi leader. As a volunteer in the Bavarian army he had no natural home after World War I.  He found his home in right wing politics.
  • Weber also contrasts differences between Hitler's auto-graphical accounts and what the historical record shows.  These discrepancies highlight much about Hitler's personality and character.
  • This book also seeks to identify when Hitler's political beliefs were developed.  While the exact timeline is fuzzy.  It is clear that he dallied in left wing politics before developing his staunch right wing views.  His antisemitic beliefs were also developed at this time.

This Could Hurt by Jillian Medoff

  • Best (and only) use of org charts used for storytelling that I have seen.
  • This novel captures the nature of work relationships in the modern era where workers regularly change jobs.  Work relationships are complex as are highly dependent on work location (which often changes).  Plus, there is an element of competition among coworkers.
  • This novel is about how colleagues at odds choose to pull together rather than apart.
